Tell us what you do.
My official title is Chicago Wedding DJ but really I’m a lot more than that. I’m a wedding consultant, a problem solver, idea machine and a sound engineer. It’s a lot more than just “pressing play” to me because I am working with other vendors, venues, guests and of course, the bride and groom to deliver the perfect party for them.
We know why you’re awesome, enlighten our audience:
I have a very modern and stylish presentation that’s coupled with a little bit of “downtown kick” . Put simply, it means you won’t hear a lot of corny antics at your wedding, but what you will hear is a lot of music that everyone at your party will enjoy. It’s put together in such a way as to avoid “fading out” or silence between tracks. I keep it movin’!
I believe the keystone of my business is my attitude toward weddings. I don’t treat a wedding as a job, I approach it more as an opportunity to create an amazing set of memories for my clients and their guests. I know that I have taken time go get to know my bride and groom and the people that are close to them so that I know exactly what music to play for them at the right time.
What else do you do with your time.
I’m a man of many interests. In addition to being Joel Quest the DJ, I’m also a pilot, a snowboarder, a vinyl record collector, astronomer, website designer, internet marketing consultant, video game player, cartoon watcher, and of course, animal lover. I’ve always been a very big animal person. I don’t have a favorite, I love them all!
Is there anyone you’d compare (or
contrast) yourself to?
I’m not sure I compare myself to a lot of DJ’s as a whole, though I’ve had a lot of influences. Everyone from DJ Jazzy Jeff to Paul Van Dyk. These guys are innovators. I’ve always sort of put my head down and done my own thing, and that’s always worked very well for me.
How long have you been doing this?
I’ve always been a music lover, and I’ve been a DJ for 14 years. I started as a Club DJ playing a lot of House, Trance and Techno and I still do that all over the country. However, I have also been performing at some of the best weddings in Chicago for the last 7 years. I bring a lot of the ideas and style that I learned as a club DJ to the Wedding DJ arena, and it gives me an edge over nearly every DJ in the Chicago area. For the most part, club djs don’t become wedding DJ’s and vice versa. Those that can do both well are like having a car that can fly.
Brides and Grooms. I love talking about wedding ideas and want to do something cool for every bridal party introduction I do based off brides’ and grooms’ ideas. I’m very accessible by email and phone anytime of the day, get in touch and let’s talk about how amazing your party will be!
