ProBride: Choosing a Bridesmaid Dress
It is tough to pick out one bridesmaid dress that will make everyone happy!
As a Planner:
Think of the mood of the wedding. Long dresses are gorgeous for formal affairs, but in a summer wedding they aren’t the most comfortable if you plan to be outside. Waiting to head to a bridal shop until you have a basic idea of what you might like, and speaking with a bridal consultant at the store can be a huge help. A consultant can share tips , has knowledge of what is common (maybe too common), what will make your bridesmaids dresses unique, offer different color solutions, or suggest going with a dress that can change to accommodate different sized women.
You may want to do some research online. I know it may seem difficult sometimes because you might see a dress the local bridal shop may not carry, or you see too much of the same type of dress. Here are some of the things you should consider before visiting a bridal shop: length, color, material, shape, and what will make your bridal party look and feel great.
As a Bride:
I did take the approach above and had huge success with it. When I was shopping for my wedding dress, I took just a few minutes to look around the shop to see what they offered. I took pictures of a few I liked. I specifically was looking for something a little more unique and something with a little shape to it. I also like the idea of using two different fabrics, such as chiffon and a satin. This was something that was suggested to me by a consultant and I loved the idea. By making even that one decision, it helped narrow the choices. I picked my favorite two and posted the pictures to a group chat with my brides maids. Overall, I think it helped to have some control over the selection process by already having styles picked out. When it came time to meet up and pick out the infamous dress, the process was smooth. You can have two girls of different shapes try on one dress and do the same with the other choice. This way you can see what both dresses look like on different sizes. Within 10 minutes the girls had chosen the dress with not one disagreement. Complete success in my eyes!
