ProBride – First Dance
“May I have this dance?”
Is that not one of the most romantic lines a man can say to a woman? Do you know what may be better than that? If the man actually knows how to dance!
As a bride:
Our first dance song didn’t come easy to us. We had always talked about it and had a list of 3-4 songs that kept moving up and down the list. None of them really grabbed us and said, “Yes! This is it,” until I was at a client’s wedding where it was their turn for their first dance and a very familiar song came on, but I just couldn’t pin it. I kept listening and even sang along to it falling more and more in love with this particular version. Once it finally hit me I had this warm feeling inside and couldn’t wait to have Adam listen to it. Well, it turns out he loved it too and we have a song! It only took six years but we are very happy with our choice.
So, what will make this song even more beautiful? A beautiful dance to go with it, of course! Adam and I have always wanted to take dance lessons and we felt this was a perfect time. I didn’t want to be the couple that did the same 2 steps over and over again losing the crowd’s interest. I also didn’t want to look uncomfortable with dance moves where I looked more like a robot than a dancer.
Adam and I decided to take dance lessons and get our dance choreographed. Dance lessons aren’t cheap and other than my wish to not look like a robot, the cost will definitely keep me practicing that’s for sure. We decided to sign up for 10 lessons and might need to add on just a few more before the big day.
So far we love it! I look at it as a date night – a night to get away and do something fun. There’s some sort of special connection that is made when you are dancing hand in hand. Personally, I feel like more of a woman. The man leads, the woman follows, and the steps just come with ease.
As a planner:
In 99.9% of all weddings, the bride and groom open the dance floor with their first dance. I would have to say that I have seen 30% of those couples actually dance to a choreographed dance. If you have room in the budget I highly recommend it. It will be an experience for the two of you to let go of daily stress and have time to focus on being together. I also think your guests will love it even more. They will watch the whole time intrigued on what you may do next. I would have to say plan on having several classes and don’t rush it. The smoother you are, the better. You will also learn moves/dances/techniques that you can take with you and use for years to come. With the perfect song and the perfect dance, there will be no way you can forget about your first dance when you’re asked by your grandchild in 50 years – it will be a beautiful memory to retell!
