Top 5 Spring 2015 Wedding Gown Trends
I LOVE imagining my wedding day. I still, of course, have to track down the man, but there’s nothing wrong with a morning Pinterest session before work, with a latte in hand, planning out your future big day! It’s fun reposting everyone’s ideas for table settings, cake decor, flowers, and crafty ways to ask your besties to be in your bridal party – but for me, it’s ALL about the dress. That might be 100% obvious, given that I work in fashion for a living, but there’s more than just a pretty dress behind the idea. Even though the reason for the day- finding the love of your life- is certainly the most important thing, feeling beautiful and confident on my wedding day comes in a VERY close 2nd place.
Before I became the Executive Sales Manager of Women’s Shoes for Bloomingdale’s, I held the exact same position, but within the Designer Dresses & Gowns department. Though our clientele shopped for the occasional cocktail dress for a night out with the girls or their company Christmas party, a trip to Bloomingdale’s for a dress almost always meant for a wedding. While advising brides and her bridesmaids on what to wear for the big day, my constant piece of advice was:
‘Choose something that makes you feel beautiful and reflects who you are. You will always remember how you amazing you felt on your day, and you want your dress to help compliment that feeling.‘
One of my other favorite sites for wedding-inspiration is on Style.com, which is run by Conde Nast, the publishing company of Vogue. I love scrolling through pictures from Bridal Fashion Week each season, and looking at the latest Monique Lhuillier or Oscar de la Renta creations. But let’s be honest – no matter HOW much I love fashion, I will not be donning a high fashion creation. My reason why I won’t be goes exactly back to the advice I used to give brides and their bridesmaids in the fitting rooms at Bloomingdale’s – I want my gown to compliment me, which is why I have compiled a list of the top 5 of my favorite, most complimentary bridal trends from the Spring 2015 Bridal Fashion Week shows for some gown-hunting inspiration!
#1 – Color
Feeling a little non-traditional, but not wanting to stray as far as SJP wearing black when she married Matthew Broderick in 1997?
Instead, try a light, airy colored gown – like the Monique Lhuillier mint ‘Oceana’ strapless gown, seen on the Spring 2015 runway. It gives you the tiniest pop of color, without straying too far from your traditional white wedding gown! I’m also digging those layers of tulle – and don’t even get me STARTED on the bow. So beautiful!
#2 – The Full Tulle Skirt
SPEAKING of the tulle skirt – what another fabulous Spring 2015 bridal trend. It adds femininity, without going for the FULL ball gown skirt. See one of my favorites from the Marchesa Spring 2015 show below. Not only am I dying over that skirt – those lace sleeves! SO elegant.
#3 – The Cape
Every spring-wedding bride needs the perfect cape to accent her gown – whether it is worn during the ceremony, or during the party after. I guarantee you, I will NOT be wearing the Naeem Khan cape to my wedding, pictured below, even though it is beautiful.
Instead, I’d opt for something delicate and simple, like the white lace piece from Watters below.
#4 – The High Collar
For Spring 2015, it’s all about the collar – or, simply speaking, the high neckline! How amazing is this contemporary piece from Christos Costarellos? The neckline makes it into so much more than it would be if it was simply a strapless gown!
#5 – My Favorite Trend: 30’s Glam
Not a fan of the tulle skirt? Opt instead for slim and sparkly bridal sheaths, another favorite of bridal designers for the coming season. In my mind, there is nothing more perfect than a 30’s-inspired gown! See two of my absolute favorites below from Rosa Clara and Austin Scarlett:
No matter which trend you choose – or even if you DON’T choose a trend for your wedding gown – remember, your day is all about YOU and what makes you feel most beautiful!
